The concept for these Probus club websites came about when I was asked to look into providing a website facility for Crickhowell Probus Club. Looking at the UK club directory it quickly became apparent that there are many clubs without a website at all, and of those that do have a website, many do not work on mobile devices, look very old-fashioned or have simply not been updated for several years. Speaking again to members of Crickhowell Probus Club it was suggested that I come up with a proposal to make it possible for clubs to present an up-to-date view of themselves on the web while at the same time being easy to update and affordable for a small organisation. This in turn led on to the concept of a system that would be flexible enough to cater for clubs who wish to do no more than supply a spreadsheet of meeting dates while allowing others to take control of their sites and update them regularly with news and features.

Simon Large has been providing websites and technical support services to a number of charitable organisations with which he’s been involved since 2007. He formed Skirrid Systems in July 2017 with the aim of providing this sort of service to a wider variety of churches and charities. You can find out more about this work on the Skirrid Systems website.
