Caterham Probus Club, the First Probus Club is now celebrating
its 56th Year
The Probus Club of Caterham, the world’s first Probus Club, is well into its second half-century.
The aims and objectives of the Club are to provide the opportunity for retired professional and business people, both male and female, to develop friendship and acquaintanceship with others in similar circumstances and of similar interests. The Club was founded in 1966 on the tenets of simplicity and freedom from constraints and obligations, and has successfully held to these up to the present day.
Currently the Club has 70 members and associates from a wide range of backgrounds, interests and former occupations. Our core activity is the monthly lunch and we have a wide variety of social activities spread throughout the year – browse our website for more detail. The Probus Club of Caterham is one of some 1,700 Probus Clubs in the United Kingdom and part of what has become a world-wide fellowship since its foundation over 50 years ago. The Club: –
- Seeks to foster fellowship and goodwill among its members and to engage in social activities as members shall agree.
- is open for membership to all retired and partially retired business and professional men and women resident in the general area.
Venue
Meetings are held every second Tuesday of the month at the Surrey National Golf Club in Chaldon. Members gather from 12 noon for pre-lunch drinks before a brief business meeting at 12:45pm followed at 1:00pm by a two-course lunch and after lunch speaker. The meeting closes at 3:00pm. Special lunches for certain events such as at Christmas are held occasionally.
