Embedding Documents

In general you should use WordPress to maintain all your content. However there are occasions when you need to show a standalone document, such as your club accounts in an Excel spreadsheet.

To do this you need ask for the Embed Any Document plugin to be activated, which allows you to use Microsoft services to show a file directly on your site.

Now you will see a new block type called Document listed under the Embed block list. Insert one of these blocks into the page and you will see a new button which allows you to embed your own Office files.

Clicking that button takes you to the document source window. In almost all cases you will want the Upload Document option, which allows you to select a document from your media library or upload a new one.

After select the file you will see an options window. Normally the defaults are OK, but you may want to check the download options. If you want your website viewers to be able to download the document you need to Show Download Link – Show for all users. You should probably also select Microsoft Only because the Google Docs viewer will be removed soon.
