WordPress includes the facility to restrict access to certain pages. To do this, use the Visibility edit link in the Publish panel. You have three options:
Public is the default setting which means anyone can view the page.
Password-protected allows you to set a password for that one page.
Private means that only people logged into WordPress can view the page. You do not want this option.
After selecting the password option, a box appears allowing you to enter a password for the page. Members will have to enter this password each time they visit the site in order to view the page. The password is stored while they have the browser window open so if they leave that page and come back, they will not be prompted again to enter it.
Note that the password only protects that one page and if you link to another page without a password, that page is not protected unless it has a password in its own right. If you do protect multiple pages then it is best to use the same password for all of them, otherwise your members will be prompted for a password again every time they change pages.
If you link to a media file, e.g. a PDF containing your address list, the file itself is not protected at all. The password only applies to the web page. If the direct address of the PDF file becomes known then anyone can download it.« Create a News Page Home Shortcodes »
