In February 1976 the inaugural meeting of the Woodbridge Probus Club was held at the Melton Grange Hotel, Woodbridge. This was spawned from the Rotary Club of Woodbridge which had decided in the previous year to investigate the possibility of forming a club, following the successful establishment of one in Aldeburgh.
The club started with 52 members and grew steadily, reaching a peak of 135, with a waiting list. By this time it was apparent that the club had become too large and unwieldy and, in 1986, a new club – the Deben Probus Club – was formed. However, this also was too large and it was agreed in 1987 to form a third club, and so Kyson Probus Club was born.
For more than 30 years Kyson Probus Club has continued to thrive, with members meeting monthly for a convivial drink, chat, lunch and a speaker. Membership has remained relatively stable, with around 50 members.
