During COVID restrictions the Club remained very active with open-air meetings in Millhouses Park and Zoom meetings. We have now resumed meetings in Holy Trinity Church hall at which the current guidelines regarding face masks, distancing and sanitising are followed.
Who are we?
We are a group of retired or semi-retired business or professional men who appreciate and value opportunities to meet others in similar circumstances. Enjoying the company of our fellow members is at the heart of what we do.
As individuals we maintain a healthy interest in the world around us, and the focal point of each meeting is a talk, generally by an external speaker, on a subject likely to interest, stimulate, inform and often amuse us. Our current programme of talks is detailed elsewhere on this website and gives an idea of the breadth of subjects covered.
We meet every Monday morning (apart from Easter, Christmas and other Bank Holidays) at Holy Trinity Church Hall, Millhouses. The typical format of our meetings is to arrive from 10.00am for tea or coffee, with biscuits (provided free of charge) and informal chat amongst members, followed at 10.30 by any club business and the talk. We aim to finish around 11.45am. Members may bring guests (male or female) to any meeting.
We also have a lunch club, and arrange occasional visits to places of interest, and although these have been restricted over the past year or so by Covid-19, they restarted in October 2021.
The Annual Membership fee is currently just £70 (Pro-rata if joining part way through a year) for all 45 meetings, and we are always pleased to welcome new members, so why not join us one Monday, with no obligation or cost? If you would like to try us out, you can just turn up, or contact our Secretary, David Lightowler, on 0114 236 3177, who will be pleased to introduce you.
The club is non-sectarian, non-political and is entirely autonomous.
