Probus Clubs form a worldwide network to provide regular gatherings to retired or semi-retired men from a wide variety of business or professional roles. Each Probus Club is autonomous. Locally, here at Tewkesbury & Bredon Hill Probus Club, we aim to stimulate retirement, but in a relaxed and informal style, and we appreciate opportunities to meet others in similar circumstances with like interests. It is ‘men only’ as a rule, but we actively, and regularly, welcome spouses/partners to open events, outings and meals.
We are non-political, non-affiliated and only have links with other organisations through members’ other wider community interests and memberships. We are not a fund-raising or charitable group. This Club endeavours to be simple in structure and to provide opportunities for meeting new friends, enjoying conversation and listening to talks on a wide variety of subjects.
Members gather from 9.45 am for a 10.15 am start. The speaker normally takes the floor at about 10.25 but we allow for a mid-session break for the all-important, coffee and conversation at 11.00. The meeting closes by 12 noon.
A representative sample of talks from recent months included:
- 3D Printing
- Tour of Kashmir
- Last Voyage of U234
- The Lisbon Earthquake
- Fun with a Ukelele
- Flying the Vulcan
But also ‘A Conversation with …’ – A group Member provides career highlights and anecdotes.
We meet on each Tuesday morning (excepting bank holiday weeks), just outside Tewkesbury, at the Bredon Village Hall with its bright modern facilities. Parking is free and plentiful.
