The Probus Club of Aldridge was formed in 1973 and 50+ years on it remains a friendly and well-supported social club of individuals from PROfessional and BUSiness backgrounds, involved in a variety of activities. A key part of our ethos is concern for the welfare of our members; a task taken very seriously by our Almoner. You may be assured of a warm welcome at our monthly meetings. Guests may “try us out” for up to three months, after which we hope they will join. The membership fee is currently £35 per annum, due from April. If you would like to know more, please use Contact Us.
Venue
We meet on the first Tuesday of each month at Aldridge Church Centre at 9.45 for a 10.00 start. Our guest speaker is followed by a break for coffee, then a formal meeting, closing around 12.00

Activities
We offer a range of activities throughout the year, including bowls, bridge and visits to places of interest. Some even involve food but for those that don’t we offer formal luncheons at recommended venues and regular intervals. The organisers spend considerable time and effort on their various roles and membership support is greatly appreciated.
Bowls
The bowls section is well-supported, combining social bowling with competition, plus a healthy element of banter. New members are always welcome. The Summer season, from April to September, focuses on outdoor crown green, with many also participating in various teams and leagues at different venues. In the winter, from October to March, we retreat indoors, playing on mats at a local sports centre and an indoor purpose-built bowling club.
Current arrangements are as follows:
Summer Season April to the end of September
Social Bowls: Single venue
- Anchor Meadow Crown Green Bowls Club (AM) is our sole venue, available for two sessions per week on Wednesdays and Fridays from 13.30 for AM members but not exclusive to Probus. Other times are also available. Membership is £45 per annum and there are no green fees
Winter Season October to the end of March
Social bowls: Two Venues
- Oak Park Sports Centre (OP) Two sessions per week on Mondays and Wednesday from 10.00 to 12.00. Charges are £3.50 per session (2025-26) plus an annual Leisure Card at £10 per annum. Monday sessions are public and Wednesdays exclusive to Probus
- Tamworth Indoor Bowls Club (TBC) Monthly, on the 1st and 3rd Fridays from 12.00 to 14.00. Charges are £7.00 per session on pre-booked rinks and the club has an expected dress code.
Competitive Bowls: During the year there is popular competition for a number of trophies and awards are presented at our regular luncheons. Dates and times are announced in advance.
In addition, a number of our members are league bowlers and play for various local teams, all of which welcome new league bowlers.

Bridge
Should you prefer something less energetic, but which keeps your brain active, we have a very friendly Bridge Club in a comfortable venue at Aldridge Conservative Club. Meetings are weekly on Wednesdays from 1.30pm and wives/partners are invited. There is a nominal charge of £1.00 per session. The Conservative Club expects all players to be CC members at £25 per year, including the use of all other facilities.
Social Events
These are organised and led by our Social Secretary, arranged on an ad hoc basis and advertised at the monthly meetings.
However, two major annual events are the luncheons in February and October, traditionally arranged by the Vice Chairman and held at a local Golf Club with an excellent reputation for food. Wives/partners are welcome to participate in all organised events.
